After my question about maps, someone had comments or recommendations on the Highland Center Lodge?
Or do you have any suggestions in that region? B & B or Motel....

For the last 3 years, I've stayed at the Villager Motel in Bartlett. Rates are decent and my stay is usually very pleasant.

The Highland Ctr is a bit spendy; the nearby bunkhouse (the building beside the parking lot)- Shapleigh is a good value. The rate schedule for both are here.

The breakfast is plentiful and reasonably priced, if served a little late for most early-bird hiker types. The dinner is, IMHO, vastly overpriced, but tasty. Unfortunately, there aren't too many choices in Twin Mtn, but if you're hiking in places like Lincoln or N. Woodstock, try to eat there. A search will turn up lots of choices.

The Mt Madison Motel in Gorham is inexpensive, basic and clean.

We have stayed at the Highland Center, its pricey and has a very "dormitory" feel to it.

The breakfasts at the AMC Pinkham Notch Center are awesome!

Gorham Motor Inn is a good value. Last couple of years, summertime midweek rates were $38 and for that you get a swimming pool, TV, A/C, and a fridge. And the Moonbeam Cafe - a great place for breakfast - is right down the road.

plenty of options in twin mtn - never stayed in highland and never will...

some I have stayed at over the years

Not sure whats up with lyons bunkhouse (Lyons Hospitality )- it was sold and I don't know what they do now. might be worth a call - they were about 20 bucks a night.

plus - by staying at a hotel in twin mt - your supporting local business as far as I know. :D

I agree with Twin Mountain..keep the economy going!

I've stayed at The Profile Motel, they have a 2 bedroom that has a full bed and 2 twins that works when you have 4 people which makes it about $30 per person.

Also stayed at The Royalty in Gorham, a little higher priced, but w/ shared not bad and has inside pool & hot tub.

Hiker's Paradise in Gorham is a decent bunkhouse for cheap. Breakfast is good and inexpensive, but served a little late.

I also stayed at the North Colony Motel this past winter, which is convenient to the south end of Crawford Notch and the Sawyer River Road. Unfortunately the closest breakfast place (Fresh Start) is almost all the way into Glen, eliminating a lot of the benefit of the location.

I've had no problems staying at Shapleigh. It certainly makes one feel like the big man around town (particularly at dinner), as the Highland Center clientele isn't particularly hardcore.

:p :p Your not kidding. One guy was bragging to me..."We bagged three 4k in two days..." He went on without a comma.
My son and I had just had a few days of backpacking/ peakbagging. We had done seven or so in three days with some long walking in the Pemi, nothing really to brag about although we were content with our deeds. Not one for oneupsmanship I just told him he must be very proud of his accomplishments. I was think in the back of my mind how so many here have done the "lists" so many times, many without trails.
