The owners of Charles Mound restrict public access to the first weekends of June, July, August and September, so the girls and I had a week to kill before highpointing Illinois. We spent a few days hanging about Michigan's Upper Peninsula before heading down through Wisconsin. A few more days at the Dells, and it was time to begin the last leg of our highpoint spree.

The first Saturday in August arrived. We drove to the property's edge, parked at the gate, and began the mile and a quarter walk to the summit.

It's a lovely amble, we enjoyed the rural setting.

Views from the top of Illinois.

Next stop: Indiana.

What a journey for the girls. I'm sure they learn a lot about their country, much more than if you were just travelling the highways and visit the tourist's stuff.

When we did Idaho's HP (TR coming up soon) we stop to eat in Arco, and had an Atomic Burger (Pickle's Place). We asked where that name came from, and learned Arco was the first community in the world ever to be lit by electricity generated by nuclear power  It's just fun to know :)

That's a lot of highpoints, I wonder if I will ever go that far in the list ! I might just do the ''fun'' ones

Mound.

Looks like you had a really nice day on Charles Mound. We sat in the chairs and had lunch enjoying the views.

Timmus. All of them are fun ones:) We will be looking forward to your report on Borah. We hope to do it but not sure if we will be able and your report may have some insight.

Timmus, thanks -- I love that you are doing some of the "big ones" this year! I like reading your TRs, they give me a glimpse of my hopeful future (I want to do all of them eventually). What a great summer you're having!

TrailwrightBratt, thanks, we did have a nice day up there. :)
