So I have $100 gift card at EMS that I need to spend on new hiking boots. I mostly hike spring to fall day hikes. My old Vasque have finally worn too much and slipped alot last year after 5-6 solid years.

EMS still has those same boots but was wondering if anyone else had good things to say about other boot options they sell.

30% off this weekend so prime time to pull the trigger along with my GC.

Also I owned the Vasque Breeze GTX brand that served me well, but want to keep my options open. I do like the ankle support compared to the low tops.

I have a pair of scarpas that I enjoy, but each make and style fits every persons feet differently so go with what fits you the best. That said, Backpacker's gear guide '12 is out now so I would say check out their boot reviews!

I have the Scarpa Kalish, which are comfy and which I got based on Backpacker's recommendation, but the quality is not up to Italian shoe snuff, IMO - the toe rand is several layers of bonded rubber and the stitching got cut on the rocks on Lowes Path and so they are coming apart. I will probably return them in the spring :( The Vasque GTX was in the try-out pile but I rejected them as being too soft (not enough ankle support.)
