Kodi (my Akita) and I will be camping at Lake Elmore State Park for 5 days in mid-September. I am not at all familiar with this area and thought I would like to explore something new. I am planning on spending one day checking out the ski/bike trails at Craftsbury Commons.
I do not mind driving a bit to get to explore new hiking trails.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
Thanks.

Lots of good options, varying degrees of challenge. Try some hiking in the Worcester Range, nearby (Mount Hunger, Mount Worcester, etc.) or around Mt. Mansfield, Camel's Hump . . . and so on.

The Green Mountain Club is a great source of information. Check this GMC web page for some dayhikes in the Waterbury-Stowe part of VT, not far from where you'll be.

Happy hiking in the Green Mountain State!

I enjoyed Mt. Hunger. Most of the trail is in the woods but it peaks up above treeline at the end. The "Day Hikers Guide" published by the Green Mountain club is a good resource for trails other than the Long trail (see Long Trail Guide for that).
