Hockanum Flats

Does anyone have a suggestion for an alternative route across the Hockanum Flats on the M-M Trail? The Flats have been flooded for quite a while and our group wants to earn our badge the honest way....the trail coordinator for the Berkshire Chapter (AMC) suggests we skip the .07 section rather than risk injury. We even discussed crossing with dry suits! By 'flooded', I mean the depth of water is anywhere from 2-5 feet.....

If the trail's being flooded is a permanent condition, won't it just be a matter of time before it's rerouted? Or, if you really have to cross that section, couldn't you wait until it freezes over, and then pass through?

Nate....thanks for your response....yes, we have also considered skating across! The problem with that option is that we have been committed to finishing the trail in this calendar year.....you know what they say about the 'best laid plans'...
