I pretty much had my way with the Long Trail this weekend. I am a little tired now and feeling content. Took a little jaunt up to Bolton Mt on friday from Mansfield and then took the Long trail south from Duxbury road to the summit today.

I convinced my friend Emily to hike the Hump today, and with her being a competitive person, she wanted to do the hardest version of the hike since I mentioned that there was a "hard" version. Turns out the hard version climbs 3700 vertical feet in a little over 6 miles from the base of the Winooski river. Probably the hardest climb in all of VT. It was a beautiful climb that resulted in lots of sweating, a little swearing, and a few tired pairs of legs. Here is a picture of moderate sweating on the way up. It only gets worse from here, so you may not want to see the later photos of me sweating profusely.

The summit was attained in about 4 hours. Here is a picture of a happy co-hiker!

We then took a combination of the Dean/Monroe/ or other trails back down to the normal parking lot, I really forget the names exactly of which trails were taken. All I know is that after that, we walked down the long access road to Duxbury road and then a few miles back east to the Long trail parking lot. One note of interest, I finally saw parts of the 1944 bomber crash on the mountain after hiking this mountain a good 10 times or so.

If you want to see more photos which proves how much a human can actually sweat, take a look. Kind of disturbing images though, you may want to take the kids out of the room.
