Conditions first.

A lot of the trails around Hunter are swept clear of snow, but are very icy/rocky. You could tell a LOT of water ran down the mountain. Most of it has stopped. The local streams are a tad high, but not drastically so. All stream crossings were easy today.

There is still a snow base. Varies from a few inches to 2 feet as you go up. It is getting fairly hard. I went off trail several times and did not break thru. Looking good for the weekend! :D

The snow today was very dry and fluffy. We got 2-5" around Hunter.

Now the TR.

We wore showshoes all day.

Windy with temps in the 20's.

Started at 9:15 from the end of Spruceton Rd. Went up to Diamond Notch Falls, then took the DP up. Turned off at the 'secret' mark to Leavitt. Herd path very easy to follow straight to the canister at 11:50. Back down to the trail by 12:30. Hit the firetower at 1:45. Hung out on the porch for a while celebrating the finish of our W35T (Laurie and I hiking them all together) with a very tasty Hefeweizen, courtesy of Paula. :D Visited the new John Robb lean-to, still looks great. No graffiti! Log book was trashed. At 3:45 we were back at the cars. Snowed on and off, a few patches of clear sky here and there.

Good day to be out! :)
