Date Hiked: 9/18/08
Conditions: Trails free of blowdowns. A few wet areas but mostly dry. No insects. The pipe spring on the yellow connecting trail near the summit had a dripping trickle, but there is a steady streamlet of water flowing next to the pipe.
Special Required Equipment: Camera (fire tower views, viewpoint at the end of a short yellow blazed trail opposite the top of the Becker Hollow Trail). There were also many new views along the upper elevations of the Becker Hollow Trail from the April 15, 2007 ice storm. Very clear views today.
Comments: Round trip of 4.9 miles, 2200' total elevation gain. For county highpointers the actual summit is a rock at the southwestern edge of the tower clearing. The elevation and an arrow pointing north are carved and painted on the rock. The hardwood foliage is still mostly green. However, about half of the birch leaves near the summit have already withered and fallen which is normal for this summit. The chill of autumn was in the air making this a very refreshing hike.
