Sunday, I decided to go hunting for mountain heath on Boot Spur. It seems to favor 5,000'ish, east-facing sort-of-sheltered areas. Mountain heath is maybe my favorite alpine flower.
I took Glen Boulder Trail...
I like the way this trail takes you through open alpine areas and then back into trees and back out into open grassy alpine areas.
woods sorrels...
butterfly enjoying bunchberry on a bright sunny afternoon...
view back toward Wildcat Ridge...
nice patches of twin flower right along the trail...
view south down Davis Path...
view toward Mt. Franklin...
I got to Boott Spur and started exploring for mountain heath, suspecting it was a good habitat for them. I was excited to find some, but it had already passed.....D'oh!
It was still a nice hike in the alpine zone on a beautiful July day...very pretty...I'll just have to visit again next summer, just a little earlier...
happy trails
