There was a video a couple years back about a guy who demonstrated how a skier can extract himself after immersion, but I can't find it anymore. Anyone have a new url? As I recall, he did make it through the lesson, but just barely before needing intervention. Tough to get the skis off before succumbing!

Yes, that's it, real good stuff! We were out on Ethan Pond this weekend, totally windblown, had to be frozen through. I nonetheless thought of that footage and we kept near the edge.
