I'm planning to do some solo bushwacking Wednesday to Friday of next week and I would just hate to be shot at...

Muzzleloader deer season is on from now until Nov. 11. Firearm deer season runs from Nov. 12 to Dec. 7. Those first few days of rifle deer season, which coincide with your bushwhack dates, are the busiest. I usually clean out the basement then.

Hmmm! Looks like I will have to change my plans.
I'll check the Adirondacks but I suspect it might be a similar situation.

Thanks for the info!

Certainly not...came across a deer hunter on my hike late this afternoon up Eagle Mountain near Jackson, NH. Good think I was wearing bright colors!

Really dumb question

Is there any restriction on hunting in the WMNF?

I always had the vague sense there was, but I am pretty sure, upon further reflection, there is not. Is it safe to assume that hiking or biking in my brown fur jacket and antler hat is going to be a bad idea for the rest of November?

LOL! :D

miiiiight want to stay away from Pittsburg if you do. ;)

Hunting is open throughout the WMNF, including the Wilderness Areas. It is generally regulated by the New Hampshire Department of Fish and Game (and the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife), not the U.S. Forest Service. The feds have however promulgated a rule that prohibits:

"(d)ischarging a firearm or any other implement capable of taking human life, causing injury, or damaging property as follows:
In or within 150 yards of a residence, building, campsite, developed recreation site, or occupied area, or
Across or on a Forest System Road or body of water adjacent thereto, or in any manner or place whereby any person or property is exposed to injury or damage as result of such discharge. 36-CFR 261.10 (d)"
