trails: rocky branch trail, bushwack, isolation trail, davis path, isolation spur

conditions: a packed snowshoe track the whole way. snow was wet and soft especially in the afternoon. scattered postholes particularly on rocky branch and through the bushwack. off trail route from the height of land on rocky branch trail is laid out nicely. numerous open feeder streams and seeps along isolation trail. packed route continues straight through the campsite area to meet davis path rather than climbing through to the right. nice short cut. the upper crossing of the rocky branch was snowbridged, though it seemed to be weakening by the time we got back across. some blowdown around the campsite knoll and on davis path. thanks to jeff, karine and friends ahead of us who cleared a number of the most annoying ones.

equipment: some of our group started in microspikes, but by the height of land all were in snowshoes which stayed on to the summit and back to the parking lot. with the warm temps in the afternoon they were necessary to not punch through the track.

comments: a great day on isolation. ridiculously warm and hardly a breath of wind all day. views were awesome and the birch glades off trail were beautiful. felt more like a mild mid april day than mid january. thanks to the whole crew for a nice hike.
