So much for gettin an early start...
Got headed up Rocky Branch Trail @ 9:22 under overcast skies, about 25 degrees.
Planned on taking it easy for 1st "winter" hike this season. There was only about 6 inches of slightly crusted snow, so used my small snowshoes and poles all day, which worked well for me. Others had barebooted.
After about 2 hours caught up with 2 others that were going in to check out the shelter, to try for Isolation from there @ a later date. Saw Moose tracks and poop along the way and the occasional grouse. Brook crossing was no problem, just prior to jct w/Isolation trail.
It had taken me 2:41 for the 3.7 miles...no speed records today! Headed North thinkin(not necessarily a good thing!). Feelin pretty sure there was no way I'd get there on the trail!?!?!? So after about 1/4 mile started to bushwhack. It was goin really well to!
Then it started to get thicker, but still fine Got to the top of the ridge and it was real thick. It had been 4 hours and 7 minutes... I knew I was close to the Davis Path but... Turn around time was pretty close and wuz feelin a bit beat! I knew Isolation wasn't goin anywhere so I headed back
Back to the car @ 4:37. Checkin GPS map later...I was about 500' from Davis Path then on it another 1/2 mile north to Isolation. Had covered 9.7 miles. If I'd only started couple hours earlier(a warm bed is sooo nice!!!)???
