Rocky Branch Trail was icy with sparse cover to 2500' then a few inches of light snow on the packed trail, mostly blown in. More blown in snow on the bushwhack, at times 6 - 8" in the open glades. Isolation Trail and Davis Path were mostly packed with occasional stretches of deeper blown in powder. We avoided all but the last crossing and it was solidly bridged. Two or three blowdowns on the trip, not bad.
We wore Microspike ST's for the entire hike but would have been better off using snowshoes on the upper portion for more efficient travel. Trail is not postholed.
Windy but lovely day. Bushwhack takes a higher track than some previous routes and it stays in stunning glades for most of its length. Our pleasure to meet Karine and Jeff, who had snowshoed in ahead of us and improved the footing (thanks!).
