Can anyone tell me if portions of the Rocky Branch Trail/Davis Path to Isolation are "trail run-able"? I'll likely be doing this hike the week of Sept. 20, and I'm thinking of ways to cut the time.

Thanks!

I'm not a trail-runner, but I used to run a lot and I'd guess most of it is runnable. The first section of the Rocky Branch Trail is a bit steep perhaps, but then there is a long, relatively flat section. The footing is pretty good as much of it follows an old woods road.

I was just up there. What do you mean by runable?
It's a trail in the white mountains. Wet in places, but not much different than other trails. Rather mellow in terms of elevation gain.

Well, runnable in the sense the footing is relatively firm. For example, I ran portions of the lower trail to Mt. Hale.

We just came back last night from this loop, went from Stanton to resolution shelter night 1. Then davis path to isolation down to rocky branch shelter 2. Then down rocky branch,up stairs col, and then to langdon path out. Depending on where on rocky branch you are planning on running some is not bad. I am not a runner but from r.b. shelter2 to r.b. shelter 1 is pretty flat and probably woulnt be bad. Keep in mind that section has 4 major river crossings and if it has been raining i would not reccomend this path. Up from r.b. 2 up isolation to davis path is pretty rocky in a lot of areas and probably not real good. Some of davis path would probably be not bad , iguess that depends on your abilitys as a runner , steep in spots, not in others, hope it helps, have fun.
