Dugan

Met up again at the Highland Center on 2/20 for another hike. Today's participants were Bob & Geri, and Bob Kittredge, and of course the four legged Dugan. Thanks to everyone this weekend for allowing a dog to join these group hikes.
Dugan's paws were feeling better after being irritated the day before. He and BobH were very lively, jumping and playing in the parking lot. The hike started off with a c-c-c-cold walk into the wind down 302 to the trailhead. Geri and I had a questionable start by walking right by the trailhead! BobH corrected us before we got too far.
We all started off bare booting. After the first steep pitch, Geri & I put on 10 point crampons, BobK donned 4 point instep crampons, BobH barebooted the whole day. Just goes to show, what's essential for one hiker may not be for another. As we went up and up and up, we could see Tom, Field, and Willey across the way. All of us hiked there yesterday, except BobK who summitted Eisenhower. We made some layering stops on the way up. Thank you, BobK, for helping with my pants!
We were all very glad of having a shell layer once we were above tree line. BobH estimated the wind at 30-40mph, BobK's thermometer read approx. 0. The views were incredible, blue sky all around. Unfortunately, it was not a day to linger with the view. An intrepid BobH exposed his hands to take pictures.
On the way down we saw several small groups headed up. We were also passed by a pair of young men who camped below the summit of Jackson the night before. We stopped at the trail junction for yet another layer adjustment, and for snacks. Cheese and brownies were shared all around. It's difficult to say who begs more, the Canadian Jays or Dugan!
BobH entertained Dugan on the descent, which entertained the rest of us. We stopped at the trail head to remove crampons, and to get hoods up for the short road walk back to the cars. It was as cold as the summit! BobK departed to pack for home, while Bob, Geri and I headed into the Highland Center for lunch.
After two days of hiking, with only a couple of little falls and no injuries, what happened? You guessed it, *wham* I fell flat on my back on ice on the sidewalk! Even more humiliating, I began laughing too hard to get up! Yup, great hiking skills... Thank goodness Bob's camera was stowed in their car.
