Correct that lead title--I should have said Elephant Head.
The entire loop is in good condition. There are no recent blowdowns. The streams are very low but from the doggie standpoint there is plenty of water on the Jackson trail. From the Jackson summit to about half way down the Webster link there was almost no water. There was just enough on that section to keep Lauky supplied.
We left early and the temps while going up were comfortable. A nice breeze was blowing on the summit of Jackson. As we headed down Webster we started running into folks on their way up. Toward noon as we arrived back at the car it was starting to get warm. I felt sorry for the folks just heading up at that hour. I was glad we had left early.
We took in Elephant Head on the way up. It was the first time we had been up there. There are some good views from the ledge. There was also a beautiful memorial plaque under a tree near the ledge.
It was a good hike for getting my legs back under me after some fairly easy hikes down in Georgia.
We stopped by McDonald's in Conway on the way home. Lauky had been sleeping on the floor of the car, but the moment he heard the voice of the cashier over the speaker he was up on the seat to reclaim his usual hamburger.
