Trail very wet and with running water due to recent rain and general "socked in" conditions. Ice on all vegetation in the summit rock area. Herd path has the usual blowdowns in the beginning but is so well defined and cleared in all but a few places that you'll want to jump for joy but be careful not to land in the 18" of mud in many spots on the trail. Very impressive mud bogs not only in the col but higher up.
Special equipment needed: Winter gaiters - and a change of pants/shoes back at the car.
Lots of slippery roots today. Rain pants kept me warm and dry as chunks of ice threw themselves onto the ground (and me) as temps warmed, though it never got above the mid 40s° today.
