Date Hiked - 2/9/08
From - LT parking lot on CR242
To Jay Peak and then to Big Jay
Return - Back to the LT.
Conditions- Deep snow if off the packed route, nice powder, great for skiing!
Equipment used - Snowshoes a must, crampons not needed. Skis useful if you want a free run.
Comments- We tried to follow the LT as long as possible but eventually lost the path but then simply whacked uphill through wide open woods, crossing ski and snowboard paths coming down til we reached the false summit where there is a ski lift. And then we simply followed the Montrealer to the Vermonter ski trail to the Jay Peak summit, rather than try to find the LT again. Then after lunch in the heated Ski Haus, we followed a well broken trail to the summit of Big Jay. Despite all the signs, we ran into numerous skiers and snowboarders headed out there. Some barebooting, some snowshoing, some skiing. Return trip found us going back to the ski trails and then we bushwacked around the false summit to pick up our path back to CR242.
