Jefferson and Clay: 7-27-13
Trails:Caps Ridge Trail, Gulfside Trail, Clay Loop, Gulfside, Cornice Trail, Caps Ridge Tr.
Trail Conditions: The caps ridge trail has some minor mud at lower elevation and very few spots of running (trickling) water on the trail.
Special Equipment Required: Sunscreen, H20
Comments: It was a beautiful day above tree line once the clouds burned off at about 10:30. There were a lot of hikers who assumed the high starting point elevation and short distance made for an easy hike. I encountered several people who were visibly uncomfortable and out of their element on the rocky scrambles. I also witnessed several very young children visibly upset with the rigors and perils of this trail's steep sections.
All in all it was a beautiful day to be in the mountains and one that was enjoyed by most.
