The Caps Ridge trail is in good condition. The bog near the trailhead is still there, but the trail otherwise was quite dry. The rocks lower down were a bit greasy but from the Caps up they were dry and offered a pretty good grip. A bit of brushing might help in the vicinity of the Link trail but otherwise everything was fine.
There was no running water, but there were a few spots of water left here and there from yesterday's rain which would go unnoticed by most, but they were helpful for dogie hydration.
The parking lot had only a handful of cars when we arrived, but when we returned the lot was full as well as the overflow lot and cars were parked along the side of the road. As we headed down we met throngs of people heading up. It didn't let up until we got back to the car.
As for dogs on the Caps, we met one dog up on the Caps and a couple of others headed up. I was told that someone with an Irish Setter had turned back because his dog couldn't get up. Folks with experienced traildogs won't have a problem, but most of them already know that. Lauky led the way all the way up. I overheard someone comment to his wife that Lauky looked like he was half dog, half billy goat.
The weather at the top was spectacular. I had a long talk with a Sobo called bones. He had a skeleton head attached to his back pack. I asked if it was his mother in law but he said it was just his friend Sal.
