Trail: Drakes Brook Trail and returned using the Sandwich Mountain Trail

Trail Conditions: All along Drakes Brook we saw no snow and then the climb up we saw a few patches but overall it was mostly dry. We saw some snow on the trail but stepped right over it. On the ridge itself we saw hardly any snow. There are two or three snow spines left and was easily sidestepped. On the ridge there were a couple of downed trees but nothing huge; a bow saw could probably cut through. The descent down Sandwich Mountain Trail had the same conditions; very few patches of snow and it was mostly dry.

The trail is well marked either way. We were surprised how well the trees on the Sandwich Mountain Trail were blazed past the wilderness boundary since the new standard is to no longer refresh them. I thought the Forest Service was supposed to build a bridge over the brook on the Sandwich Mountain Trail last year; where are our parking fees going to? The crossing on Drakes Brook and brook on Sandwich Mountain Trails were a bit tricky but we all managed.

Special Equipment Required: None.

Comments: Summer hiking boots were fine. Great loop and the view looking south is great. We think we could make out Mt. Monadnock.
