Date of Hike: 1-4
Trail Conditions: both trails broken below tree line, a lot of ice above.
Special Equipment Required: Traction essential above tree line
Comments: We used microspikes and they were just adequate on icy slopes between mt Washington and Lakes of the Cloud. However, an ice axes would be a good idea there. Crampons would be more secure on that section but much worse for walking on exposed rocks. Beautiful and strange day with warmth and sun above tree line. Not too windy by Mt Washington standards.
