Kearsarge North Mountain via the Kearsarge North Trail

Date of Hike: Tuesday, May 13, 2008

Trail Conditions: Dry ground, mud, spring snow

Special Equipment Required: None

Comments:

From the trailhead to the top of the ledges, the trail is bare and mostly dry. Once it ducks around the north side of the mountain, there are increasingly larger snow patches (starting at around 2,600' for those of you in Rio Linda), ranging from 1-20" deep. Almost all of it can be walked around, and the 2-3 places where it covers the width of the trail, it's firm.

Water crossings no problem.

4 blowdowns remaining (was able to take care of one), non major.

Bugs not biting, but there were a few clouds of them at the top of the ledges...preview of coming attractions!

According to the log book, there were two celebrity visits today - Monadnock Volunteer and Steve Smith.

Steve commented in the book that he took the Weeks Trail and that it had an abundance of blowdowns.

Separate but somewhat related note, Hurrican Mountain Road gate is open.
