Date of Hike: November 20, 2013
Trail Conditions: Did this one solo (though with my girlfriend's dog). There are a few easy-over blowdowns -- trail work needed. The leaves are mostly tramped so the slickness is less so and hidden rocks/roots are not so much of a problem now. There is some ice on the trail, mostly from the crest of the ridge on up to the summit. It's still possible to avoid it but it did slow me done a bit in places. If, however, one were to try and use traction, surely the points would be dulled very quickly. Having hiked this with a very tiny Jack Russel terrier, I should, in fairness, add her perspective: Did this one solo (though with my mom's boyfriend). There are a few very difficult blowdowns. I had to go around them as I couldn't make it over them and couldn't squeeze under either. There are huge and difficult scrambles on this trail but I managed with a boost here and there. There were several glaciated sections of trail that I found quite difficult (my spikes didn't work). I got scared now and then, fell three times, and I cried a bit, but all-in-all it is a manageable trail.
Special Equipment Used: Brought poles and traction, didn't really need either.
Comments: Haven't done this peak since August but looking at it from my living room this morning I knew I just had to. It's such a sweet mountain, and it has amazing views. And it's no slouch... a great trainer: 3.1 miles with 2600 feet of elevation gain.
