trails: woods road
conditions: the new maine mountain guide has good directions to the trailhead. from 27 turn right onto gold brook road (kibby wind signs) and drive for close to 9 miles where it becomes signed as beaudry road. crest the next hill and turn right onto a grassy dirt road (shown on some maps as kibby mountain road). drive a short distance (wind tower right in front of you) to a grassy area where the road you follow to the summit leads uphill to the left. plenty of room to park here. most passenger cars shouldn't have an issue getting to this point as the roads were in relatively good shape with a few rough spots that would require a bit of care. the woods road was wet at first with some standing water then good walking to where it switches back 90 degrees towards the summit. prior to this point there is one split where you want to stay to the right. somewhat rougher the rest of the way with one short stiff climb to the summit and its tower platform.
equipment: nothing in particular.
comments: a nice walk with great views from the summit tower which has some worn floor boards, but was generally safe if you use caution. it was interesting to see the burnt out and blackened wind tower on the farm to the south and to get some close up views into an area of maine i am not very familiar with as of yet. the weasel traps all along the road on the walk up were a new sight for me as well and had us a bit perplexed as to their use at first. great hike.
