The trails were broken out all the way to South Kinsman. Our group was torn between light traction (e.g. microspikes and snowshoes) much of the way- some bare booted without much difficulty to Lonesome Lake, more and more switched to snowshoes as we moved towards the ridge.
Between our group of 7 and an AMC group, the trail is now very well broken out to South Kinsman. Snowshoes will probably be un-necessary until next snowfall. Traction will be necessary due to some sledding and butt sliding.
Be careful about cutting through the lot at Lafayette Parking. It is best to follow the usual road route. One hiker became stuck driving through and was extricated with much difficulty.
