Kinsmans via Mt Kinsman Trail 12/13
Trail Conditions: Snow depths varied from 3-4 inches at the unplowed but 4wd accessible parking lot to thigh deep along the ridge. Hard packed to bald Knob though snowshoes helped with traction and protected the water crossings which are forming though punched through in a few spots by barebooters. Snow depths rise quickly from there and snow shoes were the right footware from 3200 feet up. Ledges on KRT snowcovered and easy with snowshoes and the ridge walk between the summits packed out and excellent
Equipment: Winter stuff..cold but pleasant..we used snowshoes round trip..Most people we saw today had shoes on as well though there were a couple of nasty postholers leaving 2 foot holes in the trail in places.. Worked on several blowdowns and someone with an axe (Eugene) took care of a couple of large ones down below..
Comments: good day out..started off clear and cold..clouded up around noon and we finished in mix precip with a slow and slippy ride hope on 93. had nice views at both summits..windy in spots and many large blowdowns near the trail which look recent..perhaps from last weeks storm
