Checked the 1st mile of Old Bridal Path 4:30-5:30 Saturday...which had been a clear day w/o much wind, a great day for hiking!!! Met about a dozen folks headed out and trails were well broken out :p

Started up @ 6:43 Sunday w/light flurries and 16 degrees. Two people were ahead of me barebooting. Wore my 30" snowshoes and used old ski poles all day, which worked well.

Met one fellow coming down that had camped out  Then 2 others coming out of their tent higher up...I can't even imagine doing this!

For awhile it looked like it might clear and the sun was trying to break thru :)

Ran into one guy @ the Hut as he was putting snowshoes on. Says he's just going up Lafayette.

Met up with him again a little higher up as he was taking a food break. Caught up with the other guy as he was putting crampons on.

A couple times it was a bit tough telling what were cairns and what was a big rock. Visibility was a few hundred feet and fortunately there wasn't much wind :p

Arrived @ Lafayette Summit @ 10:05 and changed from the waist up and ate a bit, spending 17 minutes there. The other fellow was planning on going to Flume then down the slide

Found the trail w/o to much trouble and headed out. The Ridge is an amazing place!! We didn't stay together but would pass each other along the way. Arrived on Lincoln @ 10:59. After 8 minutes there we continued. Met 2 guys that had come up Falling Waters and they said a person ahead of them in snowshoes had turned toward Liberty :p After passing the jct and looking back, I saw about 6 folks arriving there.

As we reached the trees he switched from crampons to snowshoes. I felt extremely fortunate another person had broken trail! All you folks out there that broke/helped break out any of the trails are truly amazing people!!!

I packed it out more by not stepping in previous tracks. Had I been alone and the trail unbroken I'd have headed down Falling Waters! I actually fell over backwards 3 times going down steep section...such a klutz sometimes :D

Arriving @ Liberty Spring Trail it appeared a "Herd" of folks had come up and headed to Liberty! All Right!!!

Met up with about 9 people @ the summit @ 1:33, visibility was 200'-300'. The fellow continued on to Flume but I decided I'd visit another time...hope he made out OK!

Headed back after a 10 minute break...the Views would have been Great!!!

Soon caught up and passed the group of people and got to the "bike/snowmobile" path @ 3:21 and it was snowing pretty good! A few of the folks had caught up with me and offered a ride as they were parked @ the Basin, Great, thank you!

Lots of "smelly" snowmobiles went by. At the trailhead it was almost a white out! Got dropped @ entrance to Lafayette Place and I walked up to my car in about 6" of new snow! 93 southbound was backed up and crawling!!

Stopped @ Franconia Store for some food and the weather was fine! Glad I'd not gone 93 SB ;)

Nice TR MTNRUNR.

Also, nice crossing paths with you up on the ridge on Sunday. Though the visibility wasn't great, it was still pretty sweet up there. I was surprised how much snow was down around the hut. Much more than on the falling waters trail.

Did anyone out there lose a water bottle and insulator? I found one right around the Shining Rock sign. You can pm me if you lost one.

Nice report. I ended up skipping Equinox this weekend. I was beat from Kinsman and snowshoe racing at Greylock.

hey that might have been me! my buddy and i were camped out off trail lower than shinning rock and there was a larger party, 4 or 6 maybe, camped out higher up off the trail. they said they had a fire, still wondering how they managed that!?!?!? i should have posted a report and some pics, twas a good time, i missed the mtns.

Hey Danno, always nice meeting up with others on the trail, talking and trading info. Even though the views were limited it was still great :D

Dave...you know...you've never been this old  Hope you had a good hike to the Kinsmans and a good race to! Remember, Pikes Peak entries open @ 10am tomorrow morning! Filled in a matter of hours last year! Can you believe that many people are willing to pay money to run up a mountain ;)

If that was you outside the tent when I went by Starchild, I could email you a pix if you want :p
