Lower (below hut):
Conditions: At trailhead bare ground w/ increasing monorail, then becoming a bumpy, lumpy, hard-packed, post-hole extravaganza, esp from Eagle Pass to the hut.
Equipment: I used snowshoes (on both ascent & descent), tho any form of traction would probably do.
Upper (above hut):
Conditions: Above the hut, snow was generally soft from the sun, w/ a couple inches of recent snow over a solid layer of ice.
Equipment: I switched from snowshoes to crampons on the summit cone and was glad to have them coming down the steep section near the top (there were a number of slide marks).
