Trails: Skookumchuck, Garfield Ridge
Conditions: The Skook is 99.99% snow-free. Just a handful of small patches (including one that's all ice) beginning at 3,800 feet. Several blowdowns, all easily negotiated.
Special equipment: None. Some hikers we met on Garfield Ridge and at Lafayette summit were wearing gloves and long sleeves due to a cold, stiff wind.
Comments: Beautiful Memorial Day hike on one of my favorite White Mountain trails. Not a soul seen on the Skook until we were nearly back at the trailhead on the return. Usual crowd on Garfield Ridge and Lafayette.
