Thinking of going on a kayak trip to the ADKs and thinking about this campground, which is on Lake Durant and also near Blue Mountain Lake, the ADK Museum, Raquette lake.

Is this a decent place, haven't been to the area and appears to have availability on labor day weekend...

Figure we could do some hiking or kayaking or just visiting the museum which is supposed to be nice.

Thanks,
Jay

I went with a group of friends to this campground last Colombus Day Weekend. Some of us paddled, and some of us hiked, we did a loop hike right out of the campground of about eight miles. This was a low, pond hike, as all of the higher peaks were socked in with clouds. On a clearer day we climbed Snowy Peak, which offered excellent views with about a six mile round trip. Most of us had already climbed Blue Mountain, so we skipped that, but that would be another good option. There were many short trips around that we used to fill in the day.

The campground itself is very nice, the sites are not too close together, and many are right on the lake, it didn't seem to be too noisy. The showers were only hot if you got there before the rush.

I'm headed into the Moose River Area over Labor Day weekend. Several areas to kayak, Wakely Mt. to climb, as well as trails to lakes and ponds. Camping is free thoughout the area at roadside sites. Several lakes have trails which are suitable for wheeled carriers, and legal sites to camp on the lakes. This is near Lake Durant.

I have stayed there. It's nice. Rather typical of state campgrounds. The sites on the lake are nice. There is a little beach as well.

Hey, I could be a screaming kid on a bike... Well, maybe not a kid, but the screaming and bike would fit. :)

Thanks for the beta everybody, I think I may go there someday, but not this weekend... I'll wait til the area calms down, traffic wise..

Alas, I think I'm going to spend the labor day bagging some catskills hundred highest with Funkyfreddy...

Roundtop, Olderbark and Plattekill are on the menu I think..
