Date of Hike: 12/30
Trail Conditions: Trail to the gem pool rough. Above the gem pool to treeline was brutal. 4-6” of untracked powdah made for zero traction. This section now plowed free of powdah by some phenomenal snowshoe glissading (sorry
). Above treeline the ground was mercifully wind scoured.
Special Equipment Required: Snowshoes to the hut
Comments: Left the TH at 1:00pm for a sunset and moonrise at the hut. As soon as I had the hut in site the clouds came in
. The wind was biting as the sun when down so I only hung around for 15 mins.
Caution: I lost my tracks on leaving the hut in the low afternoon light above treeline. I took me 15 nervous minutes to pick up my tracks so I could continue down.
