Five year old Lauky finished his fourth round of the 48 with a loop covering North and South Twin and Galehead.
We left this morning from the North Twin trailhead. The tree is still down across the trail near the trailhead, but a branch has been removed since we last went that way making it possible to step over the tree rather than going around.
The by-pass trail (it can't be called a whack anymore) is still unmarked but very easy to follow. Even with the rain yesterday, the crossing of the river was easily done. I had my sandals with me today but they weren't needed. The North Twin trail from the river to the summit is relatively dry. It was certainly the driest of any of the trails we were on all day.
There is a lot of mud between the two twins. There were a lot of wet leaves on the trail especially lower down and the rocks for the most part tended to be wet and slippery.
The new section of trail on the Gail River trail does eliminate the two river crossings, but it tends to be muddy and mucky.
It was a beautiful day with temps in the 50s most of the day. It wasn't until we dropped below 2500' that the temperature rose into the 60s and finished at 70 at the trailhead.
Special thanks to my wife for the pick up at the Galehead trailhead making the loop possible.
Elevation gain: 3800
Mileage: 12
