After some parking lot discussion, Rols, Andy, Steve and I decided to change our plans and do an out and back to Liberty and Flume via Liberty Springs Trail, instead of using Osseo, and doing a traverse. This meant someone had to get Stash, who was planning on meeting us at Lincoln Woods. While waiting for them to return, an AMC group began to gather in the lot for the same trip we were planning. We were now quite psyched about our plan change.

After collecting Stash, we headed up, and were on trail at 8am. Low and behold, it was all packed out.:D I guess I didn't need the 30" Atlas 'shoes for this trip.. Oh well, I figured later in the day I would have more fun snowshoe skiing down , than the folks in the MSR's.:p

The AMC group passed us near the Flume Slide jct. and we didn't see them again until we were on our way up Flume. It was cold out...-8 in the lot when we started, but no one got too cold. For some reason, I couldn't get the theme song from Sanford and Son ( written by Quincy Jones) out of my head all day.:rolleyes: As the trail got steeper, Steve and I slowed down, and Rols kept us company as we were riffing on MLK's mountain top speech....
me: " I have seen the mountain top!"
Steve: " but I may not make it there with you!"

Needless to say, we were slow on the ups that day.

On the way over to Flume we met the AMC group coming back. One of the leaders said she had done Liberty 3 times in winter, but had never made it to Flume until today. We all hi 5'd and wished each other good luck. Atop Flume, there was another round of congrats all around, and then we were headed back the way we came. The Atlas 'shoes were perfect for the descent condition, and I had a blast "skiing" down the trail.
Back at the Whitehouse Trail junction, I took a photo of Steve next to the sign so he could show the masses(at least 3 people) that voted for him, his new digs.

Back down at 5pm for a round trip time of 9 hrs, we headed into Lincoln for some grub, and them off our separate ways.

Thanks to Andy,Andy's dog (forgot name), Stash, Rols and Steve for heading out with me on a chilly day in the woods!

I hope Rols and Steve will post pics from the trip, as I took none.

Oh yeah, and I have a question for all the folks who lived in the Boston area in the early 90's....
On WFNX there was a morning DJ named "morning guy Thai". In his show, there was a segment that started with the theme song to Sanford and Son, unless I'm getting a bit mixed up but I think I have that right. My question is what the h#ll was that segment??? It's bugging me, and I can't find anything on the interweb to help me remember.....

In large part due to this (well, not that specific song), I carry an mp3 player with me - while I generally don't use it much, it's nice to be able to expunge an annoying song out of your head!

Tom Irwin aka Morning Guy Tai (initials T.A.I.) 1985 - 1997 - I remember him and the show but not the theme. Maybe the full name can help your web search.

Don't get me wrong....I think it is a great theme song! Sometimes I just have a hard time getting things like that out of my head...usually someone puts a WORSE song in my head to get rid of the first one. SO, again, right now its there. wha wha wha-na. wha wha wha-na na na na.....

The only musical segment I remember with Tai (sometimes known as Tai Stickley) was his sports summary, which featured women singing, "Tai, Tai, he's our guy! Tai, Tai, poke him in the eye! Tai, Tai he's our guy. Tai Tai, bite him in the thigh". It did not sound remotely like the theme to Sanford and Son, though. :(

Anyway, glad you guys had a great time. Nicely written report as always, Jason. :D

thanks Marty. Now I'm wondering if it was on BCN.....it might have been the theme song to a contest where you had to identify the song from a 5 second byte....

Thanks a lot for putting this song into my head, Jason!

Nice report. I think the full name of that D.J. is Thomas Alan Irwin.

Well, since we're talking about 1970s sitcoms...

Come and knock at the door...
We've been waiting for you...

Have a good day :)

I can't remember the dog's name either...

I belive her name had something to do with the moon?

She did well when moving but didn't like dawdling at the peak...

right back at ya.;)

Temporary lay offs.
Good Times.
Easy credit rip offs.
Good Times.
Scratchin' and surviving.
Good Times.
Hangin in a chow line
Good Times.
Ain't we lucky we got 'em
Good Times.

huh, sounds like it was written for today.

Wasn't the sports chant after he went to BCN? After Chuck took "The Big Mattress" to ZLX?

Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale
A tale of a fateful trip... not to Mt Liberty/Flume ;)

Sorry Dave... ;)

It was nice to meet Rols, Stash, Andy and Selene. And great to hike with Jason again. I still can't believe it was as cold as the thermometer said, it felt warmer than the last two hikes I've been on. And it was not as clear either, so I did take some pictures, but not too many.

It was a great day to be out. Great conditions with good people. Jason and Andy it was good to be on the trail with you two again (Selena too). Steve and Stash... it was a pleasure meeting and hiking with you. My thanks to Jason for pulling it all together.

It was a good thing I didn't stop with you guys for dinner. After my 3.5 hr drive home, I was greeted by my wife's van stuck on the ice in my driveway. To get it free I had to unload 1/2 ton of pellets and carry them over a snow bank. With that having been said, our day in the mountains made it a terrific day.
