Date of Hike: 2009.05.16
Trail Conditions:
Falling Waters a bit muddy in expected spots. Crossings were more difficult than usual but by no means a challenge. Snow starts a bit below Shining Rock and continues until a bit below the ridge. There is a fair amount of snow. Light traction might be a good idea if descending. I bare booted on the way up with no issues.
Franconia Ridge was in perfect shape.
Old Bridle Path had very little snow. Probably a few hundred yards of monorail just above the hut. Bare boots worked great.
Special Equipment Required: Poles were a big help with the water crossings and the snowy ascent. Light traction may be useful if descending Falling Waters.
Comments: Awesome day. Bright blue skies until I started my descent. Met the charming duo of Trish and Alex on Lincoln. It's always nice to meet someone whose trip reports I enjoy so much.
