I heard that you can mountain bike up Livermore Road Trail from Waterville Valley. I heard that it was fairly smooth to the Sorth Slide at 2.6. Is it possible to bike all the way to Scaur Trail, which I believe is about 3.8 miles in.

Just looking to mix things up a bit.

Thanks

Yes, You may have a few obstacles in your path, (trees and a washed out spot) as well as some snow right now, but in the summer people bike all the way across to the Kanc. Beyond about 3.1 miles the "road" is more trail like, but still bike-able.

Update to my previous post.
The northernmost couple of miles are described at "technical" unless very dry. Certainly no major problems though getting in to the Scaur Ridge Trail from the Livermore parking area.

Very ridable. I haven't done it in a few years, but I have ridden most of the WVAIA trails on a MTB, and several on a cyclocross bike.

After bagging Tripyramid last summer I was wishing MTBs were allowed. Livermore Road / Trail is a slog after doing the mountain. I've hiked, biked and (mostly) skied Livermore Road. One if these days I'll have to fish in Avalanche Brook to complete the "grand slam".

I agree with the above posters. The other huge advantage to mountain biking vs. hiking in June is that you can outrun the black flies, which can be abundant on that road. I have learned the hard way, TWICE!

I also kind of wish that mountain biking would qualify for the FTFC peakbagging lists, but those are the rules!

The first few miles up to a gravel pit are suitable for ordinary cars and they used to let you drive them

There is a brook crossing and a bad eroded section near the pass

At the Kancamagus end the last mile or so of the official trail has been moved from the old road to come out at Lily Pond and built to hiking trail standards. The old road is probably too grown up to bike as an alternate.
