I'd like to get active again in New England and hoping someone might give me a hand.
I have 35 of the NEHH to go and would like to get back on them. I'm pretty sure about the location of most of the remaining ones but can't seem to locate the correct Boundary, Nubble, and Sandwich. I've mapped the others on the NG software. Any advice from the folks who know their way around?

Also hoping to chase the VT100 peaks I didn't get to when section hiking the Long Trail back when.

If anyone is interested in some company on some, pls shoot me a PM.

Thanks,

Alan

Sandwich is in my back yard (Rt. 49 or off it), and I often do it, would love company.

If all I want is some exercise and views just at the top I usually go by the Drake's Brook Trail; on a day with good weather (foliage a plus) the Algonquin Trail is close to unbeatable (two cars a must for me; I have no desire to go down that trail).

Note: I am a fair weather hiker; being retired and living almost within the boundaries of the WMNF I see no point in hiking in the rain.

Sandwich Dome

I've been to Sandwich Dome, but this looks like a great group forming for a trip. If and when this happens Jude, Emma and I would love to be included!

Nubble peak is in Twin Mountain - otherwise known as Peak Above the Nubble.

It is easiest reached via Haystack Rd (the road that the North Twin trailhead is on)

Been there many times and would love to join you. There are a few nice views along the way. Like Sabrina, we love dogs on hikes!

Sandwhich as Mahomed pointed out is off of Rte 49 by Waterville Valley. You can make a loop of the hike if you want - be sure to include Jennings Peak.

Boundry is easiest reached from Gosford Park in Canada:

Long drive - short hike! If your going in the fall call ahead to be sure it is not hunting season.

We should have most of the NEHH peaks on our website, so take a look and feel free to aks questions.

Let's see, that makes Bookah, Emma and Terra so far...

Definately sounds to me like an awesome group of canines and bipeds are all interested in these hikes...hint hint, Allen....sounds like you may be planning an outing. :)

Hmmmm....looks like you've been busy setting some new goals!
;)

To the casual observer, perhaps. I said "for my own amusement" ;) OK, I made it to see the relative positions of all these peaks for which I have no map.

(DON'T TELL MY WIFE  )

Of all the peaks I haven't done, Sandwich Dome is at or near the top of the list!

Thanks so much guys. Just gathering intel right now. If not this Fall, then heading your way in the Spring. An Autumn hike to one of these would be fun and even more fun getting out with all.

Bob and Geri. Kevin Rooney pointed me to your site last year. I've spent the evening tonight looking. What a great resource.

Bookah hasn't set a paw in NH, ME or VT, but she is the first canine to complete the Catskill 100.

List or no, SD is worth doing. Up Sandwich Mtn Tr and down Drake Tr makes a nice loop. (Take the sidetrips to Jennings Pk and Fletcher Cascade.

I have to look at the family calendar. Maybe Weeks or Sandwich in October.
I'm starting to feel that urge to get back to the NE mountains.
Would you guys let me buy the first post-hike round for the 'guides'?

Between Weeks and Sandwich, on a nice day pick Sandwich for the views. Will you only be able to hike 1 day, or can you fit in a 2nd day as well?

Bob & Geri are the best resource for "Peak Above the Nubble" so I'm glad they chimed in. Sandwich Mtn is in the Sandwich Range and has numerous real trails to/from it, either from Rte 49 near Thornton / Waterville Valley or from Sandwich Notch Road (not recommended if you like your car).

My favorite Sandwich route, besides ham & cheese, is up the Sandwich Mtn Trail over Noon Peak, the side trail to Jennings Peak, then back down on the Drakes Brook Trail. This makes a loop back to the same parking area. album

As for Boundary, the "traditional" route is to bushwhack from White Cap over to a 3K on the boundary swath, then follow the swath a couple of miles north to the peak, marked by a summit cairn. Another route some folk have done is to enter the boundary swath at Cupsuptic Pond on a logging road, and follow it all the way over the aforementioned peak to the summit cairn.

There's also the easy route from Canada, which is what we did after our attempt at the first route got turned back just a mile from the summit due to a hot, sunny day and lack of sufficient water. That's what we did here. Here are a couple of Google Maps, the sharp turn is the 3K peak, and the summit is about 2 miles north.

BTW, the Weeks are beautiful open woods, old woods with very green canopy and tons of ferns, and having done it on a foggy, drizzly day, it's perfect for those conditions.

Just found Dave Metsky's trip report of our October hike up the Algonquin Trail. We went down the long Smart's Brook Trail that day; the shorter Drake's Brook Trail might be a simpler option.
