Great day for a hike. All sun and cold.
Started at the end of Denning Road. At first, trail was mostly ice covered by a little snow. Snow got progressively deeper along the East Branch of the Neversink but never warranted snowshoes. Did the bushwack up Lone from the unmarked trail. Great views of all the peaks around...Slide, Cornell, Wittenburg, Friday, Balsam Cap, Rocky.
Kept crampons on entire time but didn't need them in the deeper snow on the peak. Snowshoes would've helped here but it was worth not carrying them since I only would've used them near the peak for a short distance.
Crampons provided great traction all day. The new g10s are GREAT!!! Didn't have to adjust them at all once they were strapped to my boots at the beginning of the hike.
