Trail Conditions: Dry, Good footing
Special Equipment Required: Windy day, shell and polypro watch cap.
Comments: Hiked in under Conrail Trestle on Route 32 on Long Path. Great views of Hudson and Taconics from High Knob. Sweet views of Catskills from Eastern Ridge. Hiked out on Jessup (yellow) Trail and Higland (Teal Diamond) Trail. Nice ridge walk with scrubby pines and oak. Loads of bayberry and blueberry blossoms. Will be nice picking in fall. Walked back on Seven Ridge Road onto Orange County Route 64 then back north on 32. About 11 miles overall and 1200 vertical gain.
Met Park Ranger Terry who was helpful in confirming info I had in Long Path Guide and on Mapserver Topo pages that did not have trail markings. He is a local guide and used to volunteer but was fortunately hired by the state. Since Schunemunk became a state park in 2001 the ridges have recovered from excessive ATV use that can be observed past the white signs that delineate the park boundaries.
