Date of Hike: January 13
Trail Conditions: Moderate ice on top of 6 inches of snow
Special Equipment Required: Snowshoes or crampons (a must); poles; gaiters
Comments: Despite recent warm weather, the LT above 2000 feet still has plenty of snow (knee-deep in places). Trekking is difficult, and skiing impossible, with a thick layer of ice on top of the snow. Snowshoeing today was completely on top of the ice, heavily relying on the crampons for stability. Bare-booting is nearly impossible.
