For first few hours it was frozen and soft granular, this made traction very helpful. Some of us wore yaktrax and others had crampons.
Decent compacted footpath of 2-3 ft. all the way to Kinsman ridge. Got very soft after noon.
For Kinsman Ridge Trail to Fishin Jimmy, snowshoes were an absolute necessity. We didn’t bring them and suffered for it. Post holed in some spots up to our waist. Made for a very long afternoon.
Fishin Jimmy all the way down was compacted with minimal post holing.
