I received email from woman saying her fiance lost their Border Collie on Wildcat Mt. yesterday 5/15. The dog's name is Newton. He is black with white and brown. He is wearing a blue lighthouse collar with a tag. He is also wearing a blue Ruffwear pack with 2 water bottles in it. He is very friendly. Please call the owner Kate 805-279-7870 if you have any information on her dog. Thanks.

Kindly let us know if the dog is recovered. We do care about such things.

Here's some advice for this situation.

If the dog's owner goes searching on the trail, that person should try to move relatively slowly and stop frequently to call and wait for several minutes. If the dog is downwind, it will take some time for the dog to reach the source of the owner's scent. If you're moving too fast, you're harder to catch up with. Be aware of the wind direction at all times and try to position the owner(s) for maximum effect in broadcasting the scent.

If your field searching comes to naught and you must leave the trail, hang clothing from the dog's owner at the trailhead. If possible, station someone there around the clock. If not possible, put food in a bowl at the clothing and check back as often as possible.

Be sure to post flyers with a photo (if possible) and a reward offer at the trailhead. Make sure you include info on the dog's name and how to contact the owner 24/7.

Uh oh!! Hope that dog is found so the fiance doesn't turn to an EX-fiance!!!

Thanks for posting all that once again SARDOG. We can never hear it too much and lots of folks have no idea what one should do when they lose their beloved "fur kid".

Sure hope this guy turns up soon. Border collies can cover a whole lot of ground in record time.

Lost Border Collie-more info

The dog and woman's fiance got to Glen Ellis Falls. The man thought water to high to cross but the dog crossed over and kept going. That was where he last saw the dog.
