Trail and Mountain names should be posted in thread Title
Date of Hike: 12/28, 29, 30
Trail Conditions: Deep snow. Poorly blazed.
Special Equipment Required: Snowshoes - essential. Ice Axe - useful. poles -useful. Compass, map and prior knowledge of trail -essential.
Comments: Started out going up Elephant head trail (now the LT) and struggled even though we had been there a couple of days ago, although just with day packs. Full packs made a difference and the higher you go the less marked the trail is--followed ski trails after elephant head spur, which sometime were the trail. Attempted Madonna the next day but after the shelters (Watson Camp is still there) we only saw about 3 blazes and no tracks except for skiers who go down from there, not up. Don't attempt the trail unless you already have a good idea where it goes and lots of time--the snow is deep and trail is untraveled. Still good to be out there though
