Middle and South Carter via 19 Mile Brook, Carter Dome and Carter Moriah
Date of Hike: March 25, 2011
Trail Conditions:
19 Mile Brook - Packed sidewalk. A little chewed up on the way out from hut-bound bare boots.
Carter Dome - Followed a single set of snowshoes through 4-6" powder that hid signs of previous trail.
Carter Moriah - More powder 4-10" and drifting in the open areas. No real sign of previous trail prior to us. Tracks wander a bit at times looking for trail including a bit of a bushwack approaching Middle Carter from the south (found and broke trail on the return).
Special Equipment Required: Light traction on 19 mile in the morning. Snowshoes pretty much required once I hit Carter Dome Trail.
Comments: Was planning to go down Nort Carter/Imp. Tracks I'd been following went down where I thought the trail to be but my memory had the trail a bit more obvious. A hip-deep leg breaker of a spruce trap a few yards in prompted a return the way I came.
