My favorite approach is via Wallface Pond outlet. Of course this was a summer approach, I have yet to get there in the winter. Round trip from the lean-to was roughly 5-6 hours. Winter route would be from the other side from Preston Ponds.
I found it to be a great summer hike, but a little wet in spots. Did it from the loj. I would think with the low snow that it would be a breeze to climb right now. I was out bushwacking around on allen 2 weeks ago and the snow is perfect for off trail hiking right now.
