Date Hiked: March 10, 2008
Conditions: Gate to State parking area was not opened, so that necessitated the hike along the road from the gate at Clear Pond. Bare-booted on icey road to start of trail to Slide Brook Lean-to. Snow-shoed to LT on hard-packed snow. The head path to Macomb was trickey to follow due to fresh fallen snow, but headed toward the new slide. Switched to crampons to ascend the slide which had a crust of hard-snow/ice and on to summit through pines thick with ice. Descended via the same route.
Special Equipment: Snow shoes, crampons, and ski pole.
Comments: A beautiful winter day for hiking. Temps in the 20's, no wind on the summit, and a crystal clear view of the surrounding peaks.
