Went in from Elk Lake, road to summer trailhead was plowed. The well packed trail had a few inches of fresh snow from Friday’s storm. Broken trail ended at the turn off for the herd path. Climb up the slide had varying snow depths, sometimes crusty. Wore snowshoes all day and was comfortable going both up and down the Macomb slide in them. No visible markings of a trail over to Carson, but there was a faint trail to Grace. Retraced our route out so it is now well packed. Hike took 10.5 hours.
