Date of Hike: Thur. 01-14-10
Trails: Valley Way, Osgood, Gulfside, Snowfields
We bare-booted to Randolf Jct. From there to the Hut, snowshoes for traction in the softer snow. From the Hut to Madison summit, crampons were perfect, on the styrofoam conditions. We left our crampons on for Adams, but snowshoes would have worked better, especially in the snow fields to the summit. A few of us switched back to snowshoes at the summit of Adams, while the rest switched back to snowshoes at the hut. We wore our snowshoes all the way back down.
A few blowdowns on Valley Way. Trail is nicely packed all the way to the hut.
Nice sunny day with a breeze on Madison and some gusts on Adams. Fairly mild temps today. All in all a great day for the Presys'.
