What a weekend to hike in the Whites.
We drove up frm MA and got a 10:00 start up the Valley Way to Madison. We were in shirts, no gloves or hats very quickly as the sun and warmth of the day was so un-February like. We barebooted all day, a couple sections of ice were small and managable.
We dropped our packs at Madisn Hut and rock hopped up Madison with those wonderfull un-flexible plastic boots. With such an unusually warm day we decided to continue up Adams. Even at the peaks it was comfortible with a thin hat and windjacket. Out of the wind it was "hot".
The views were far and beautifull and we just kept saying how lucky we were to be enjoying such a day on the Mountain. There aren't many days in the Winter so warm and sunny with pretty good trail conditions.
The ice wasn't enough for crampons, but took extra care between the rocks and hard packed snow.
